You going to church this weekend?

“Nah. I’m tired. I’ll stay in and maybe do a little reading on my own time or maybe catch something online quick.”

Have you heard something along these lines before? I’d like to share a little, regarding this.

Disclaimer: This post is not referring to people who have suffered injury and need to stay home. Nor is it addressing people who fell under the weather and need time to recover and to be taken care of. Thank you for your understanding in this.

Convocation

 Leviticus 23:3 (NASB)

‘For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation. You shall not do any work; it is a sabbath to the Lord in all your dwellings.

Take note of the word “convocation”.

—noun

  •  the act of convoking.
  •  the state of being convoked.
  •  a group of people gathered in answer to a summons; assembly.
  •  Anglican Church. either of the two provincial synods or assemblies of the clergy.
  •  Protestant Episcopal Church.
  •  an assembly of the clergy of part of a diocese.
  •  the area represented at such an assembly.
  •  a formal assembly at a college or university, especially for a graduation ceremony.

Noticed that a special named day is set apart for this? 🙂

So, the intention is for people to gather together for church, and not really separate and do something else in their homes apart. Granted, if someone is sick or injured that’s understandable. I am assuming for the healthy, and able person.

Let’s use the human body for our next illustration, as well as the Bible.

Body

 Ephesians 5:23, 30 (NASB)

For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. … because we are members of His body.

If Christ is the head, and the Church His body, and you choose not to be part of the body, where does that leave you?
Going to church is not what saves you. To continue being honest with you, based on scripture, you do run a risk if you assume it’s not important to go.

Here’s something. Sometimes, people are just tired. Overworked, overstudied, etc. Here is my advice to you. Take a serious look and evaluate your schedule. You may have to cut some things, make changes. Pray about it, have faith in God, do your part.

I would also like to note that this is an intro. It would be great if you were to take these verses and continued building on them. Not to give anyone a hard time who may use this line of reasoning, but to show them the incredible blessings there are in going. Here is a head start…

Matthew 18:20 (ESV)

20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

What a blessing. Speaking of which, I have to share this next verse, I can’t help it. It’s only right.

A Unique, Unchangeable, Blessing

Genesis 2:1-3 (ESV)

The Seventh Day, God Rests
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
